Required some trimming
I purchased this skeg guard to repair a damaged skeg. The one small complaint was that it did require trimming to my already damaged skeg which was not expected.
From the listing it states "whether you are looking to protect your new skeg or just add some shine" it appeared that this would actually be larger to slip-on over your existing skeg. Even with the damage from the photos it required cutting about 3" off the bottom section of the original skeg to fit the guard on properly.
While this is not a big deal on an already damaged unit it would be a surprise if you excepted to slip this on over a new lower unit.
Screws that were provided fit perfect. Two allen wrenches and small bottle of thread sealant were included inside of the packaging and worked great to complete the install.
Overall I would recommend this for anyone with a damaged skeg as it is much cheaper & easier than having to buy a new one.

SS650 fits 1975 Mercury 50hp
If I could give this 10 stars I would! First, it shipped and arrived much faster than expected which alone earns 5 stars. Second, this is being used on a 1974 Mercury 50Hp, well beyond the year range called out in the application sheet, but it fits like a glove! Looks great! Another 5 stars! Back on the water.

Covered up my chipped skeg on my alpha one Gen 2. Wish it was black, as it is the only chrome thing on my boat and looks a little silly on the trailer, but ohh well. About a million dollars cheaper than replacing the bottom half of the out drive.
